Harry Potter Snitch Tutorial

Hey, guys! I made this craft for my upcoming Harry Potter Party and took a few progress pictures along the way, so I thought I would share it with you! I'm sure it's not a unique idea, but it's unique to me. ;) I got all the things from Michael's.

If you want to do it exactly like I did, you'll need the following, but for a lot of these, you could use something to substitute. I adapted as I went, so this is just the easiest way for me.

You'll need:

Styrofoam Balls (Preferably the smooth ones)
Xacto Knife
Gold Paint
Foam Paint Brushes
Regular Paint Brushes
White Feathers
Glue Gun/Glue Stick
Cups
Straws

Step One:

Smoothing: The foam balls that I got had an opening on one side and a protruding edge all the way around the middle. Originally, I had intended to cut the edge off, but found it far easier to just smooth it down with the Xacto Knife.

Step Two:

Painting: I found it a lot easier to pounce the first two coats of paint onto the balls with a foam paint brush since this gave it a thick coat to build a base upon. On the third coat, I used a regular paint brush to smooth the paint on.

Execution: Originally, I had started with painting only half the ball, letting it dry, painting the other half... this method is long, tedious, and unnecessary. I finally figured out that I could use straws in the hole already supplied in the ball and skewer them on.

Starting at the BOTTOM of the ball, paint your way up. You want to do this because the straw is not sturdy and the ball will pop off and get paint everywhere. So, use your finger to hold it down while you paint the bottom half and then paint the top.

When you're done, you can put the straw in a cup for it to dry. (If you use a plastic cup, make sure there is something inside it to keep the cup from tipping over. I suggest 4 to a cup until dry.

Tip: Do not store these in a place where they touch until 24 hours after. Just because it looks and feels dry does not mean it won't stick to the other balls and pull off the paint where they touched.

Step Three:

Flight: Since there was already one hole in the ball, I used that for one side of the wings and it made it easy to keep them even as a I just popped the other wing into the other side.

Match up your feathers first. There is nothing more frustrating than feathers that are extremely different sizes or ones that turn two different ways. Use something sharp to pop a hole in the side that doesn't have one (I used needle nose pliers, just using the one side, not both together) and then pop your feather in. It's a tight enough fit that you don't need to use any glue.

On the other side, you'll need to put glue into the cavity and then put the matching feather in while the glue is hot.

Step Four:

Enjoy! You can put them on your shelves, give them to friends, or do what I'm thinking of doing and turning them into a mobile. :)

Phoenix Fine Design Trade

A few days ago, I got a package from Lexy over at Phoenix Fine Design and the excitement was barely contained!

I was fortunate enough to get a necklace and a painting from her and I couldn't be happier with them!

When I opened the box, everything was packed very well. There was bubble wrap on the painting and air pockets to make sure that everything stayed where it should.

I asked for a light green/white faded gradient with the dark silhouette of a tree. What she came up with for me is absolutely breathtaking! I adore the willowy quality and the spindly branches! It has a place of pride right above my monitor so that I can see it always!

I also really enjoy the white edging around it because I've placed it on a white wall, so it looks like this image is seeping through.

The necklace took me quite a long time to settle on because she has so many colors and pendants to choose from! We finally settled on a rainbow motif and a tree pendant. (How can I ever say no to trees? That would be blasphemy!)

I am in love with it! It works with everything! I also really enjoy the jangling sound the rings make when you shift the necklace in your hands.

Here's a second image of it so that you can see the colors a bit better. Each ring has a small bead of the same color on it and the closures on the rings are PERFECT!

And it has to be said that these charms that she adds onto the backs are so stinkin' cute! I love little personal touches like this! The necklace also came with a little card of authenticity, but I didn't get a picture of that. :)

And for your amusement... Lexy, you have Sven for quality control, I have Baymax. I think it's safe to say that it passes inspection! ;)

If you're thinking about ordering (and haven't) or you're not familiar with Lexy's work, then I suggest you remedy that! It's a pleasure and a delight to have these treasures in my life. <3

Thank you for trading with me, Lexy! (And thank you for the candy!)

Bantammbb Stickers

I've never mentioned it before, but I'm a HUGE sticker nut. Seriously. I have a sticker collection. So, when I saw Bantambb having a sale for her "Oopsies," I had to get in on it. It was a bit of a problem to keep myself in check.

The first time I'd seen her was with this sale, but even full price, her stickers are so incredibly well priced! And I squealed at all of the available fandoms that she has!

They are paper stickers, so they are a matte finish and not glossy, which is fine for me, but I'd advise that you don't put them anywhere where they are in danger of getting wet.

Most of the stickers are $1.50, but can be more if they are bigger or more elaborate and magnets are $3 unless they are bigger/more elaborate. If you'd like an easy way to see what all she has, her shop is here: Bantambb StoreEnvy

You'll notice that her "Oopsies" are... well, not exactly oopsies. The colors are off from what she intended them to be and that's it. I'm more than happy to help her unload her oopsies!

Here is Marvin from Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. I also got Ford, Arther, and Iron Man, but they were whisked away by the Fiance. Marvin is considered an 'Oopsie', the Soot Sprites are not. (They're the only ones that aren't Oopsies from this haul.) They're full pigmented and fricken adorable. <3

Here is Sailor Venus, Sailor Jupiter, Sailor Mercury, Sailor Mars, and The Tenth Doctor in the Tardis.

Here we have Professer Snape and Mrs. Peacock from Clue. She's actually a Magnet!

Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice, Beetl- Ah well, we have Barbara and Adam in their spooky alter egos as well as Beetlejuice and Lydia.

If you're a sticker nut like I am, I highly, highly recommend checking out BB. I predict my fridge will be covered in her magnets and my sticker book will be filled with her stickers in good time.

Silliness of Sewing

I had the absolute joy and luck of winning the latest giveaway that Sylvia was holding for her page, Silliness of Sewing!

I have to say, getting products from fellow crafters is always fun, but getting to see how they go about shipping is fascinating! I absolutely love how we each individualize our styles and make it fun for our customers to open their packages!

Upon opening the box, I was immediately attacked... in a good way. There is nothing more fun than popping the tape and watching the flaps on the box pop open and having your items burst through to greet you.

Note: This generally only happens with packing fluff or items stuffed with fluff as is this case here. No danger of real damage to you or your items.

What I won was a Mario Stocking and as you can see, there's more than that in the box! To say that I was excited is a wee bit of an understatement. Pulling the items out of the box, I found not only the stocking, but TWO of the darling pillows that she makes!

I'd had a brief conversation with Sylvia before she shipped it and she asked me what my/my fiance's favorite Mario characters were. When I said Toad and Mario (to which she giggled in a most suspicious fashion), I expected something small that added Toad into the package, like a sticker. I did not expect two full pillows!

Honestly, I truly can't express how blown away I am by her generosity! Thank you so much, Sylvia, that was absolutely above and beyond and I'm incredibly thankful! These pillows will be dearly loved!

With the items, there was a small envelope that had an adorable Mario card with a sweet message! Jesse and I will most definitely pillow fight to the death! Or not, because I'll probably squirrel them away and give him a death glare if he tries to hurt my new pillows!

The stocking fits right at home on our wall and will most definitely stay there year round. The pillows are resting on my bed at this moment and they have cuddle time in their future! (They're so soft!)

If you're not familiar with Sylvia's shop, I HIGHLY recommend it! She's such a sweet person and her products are so delightful and fun!

Mystian Fantasy Crafts Art Trade

Even though this is my second blog post, Mystian Fantasy Crafts is actually my first ever art trade and I honestly, truly could NOT be happier with it!

Amanda is such a lovely, LOVELY person. She's the absolute sweetest and always willing to answer any questions I have. It clear the passion that goes into her crafts and I'm just so excited to have these babies and call them my own. <3

When I got the box, I opened it up and the stuffing literally started to billow out from the top! Trust me when I say your dragons are going to get to you safe and sound!

Inside I found my Moon Dragon who is a mix of beautiful pastel shades, my Slytherin Book Guardian trying to keep that pesky Monster book of Monsters shut, and a business card that had a lovely little message written on the back!

I honestly can not extol the beauty of this dragon enough. These colors are so complimentary and the blue/green pastel is just the absolute perfect shade! And look at all that shimmer! I love it!

Plus, I got a little tree charm! I love, love, loooove the whole thing!

When I asked for a book guardian, I knew I wanted Slytherin colors and I knew he was going to be incredibly cute! But, when I asked for the Monster book of Monsters, I had not expected for it to come out absolutely PERFECTLY!

Seriously, this little dragon is the cutest thing!

Remember all that fluff? Perfect for a photo op! ;)

And to top it all off she signs the bottoms! HOW CUTE AND SWEET IS THAT! I absolutely ADORE this personal touch!

If you're not a fan or you're not familiar with Mystian Fantasy Designs, I urge you to please go and check her out. Otherwise, you're seriously missing out.

Dragon and Dreams Designs Art Trade

I had the absolute joy and pleasure of participating in an art trade with the lovely Carrie from Dragon and Dreams Designs

If you haven't liked her or you aren't familiar with her work, I urge you to go and do so! Her claywork is varied and amazing! I'm absolutely thrilled and amazed by not only the items I received from her, but also the time and energy that she put into packing up the items!

The devotion, energy, and thought she puts into even just packing her items for shipping is clear to see. Trust me when I say that your items will arrive safe and sound. I cut the tape, pulled off the bubble wrap, removed the air cushions, found a taped bag with boxes inside and my items nestled between two pieces of cotton inside that!

When I got the bag out of the bubble wrap, I noticed that it not only had a tree in representation of my little EntOrphans, but also my name! Not only that, but she sent a card!

Inside this HANDMADE card, was a lovely, lovely little note and her business card! How freaking cute is this?! Buuut, it gets cuter...

I opened the bag to find three boxes, a bag, a ladybug rock, and a flower.

Please note that the ladybug and flower were not part of my order and were things she just threw in!

The boxes are amazing and I'm going to have to keep them because they're just beautiful! But guys... it gets EVEN CUTER....

The images on the boxes match what's inside the boxes!!!! Give me a moment, because I still find this to be the CUTEST thing even an hour after the fact!

Here are all the items and I just couldn't be happier. If you're wondering about the tiny scroll and blue patch that came with the fairy door, that's a small scroll that tells you some lore about fairy doors and the blue is tack so that you can fix it to a wall.

And... to top it all off, as I pulled the backings off the earrings, I find this little sticker. It was the cherry on top of the cake.

Trust me when I say that this has made my month and you absolutely will NOT regret buying from Dragon and Dreams Designs!
